Granite Shoals Councilman Aaron Garcia was sworn in as mayor on Tuesday, Oct. 11 during a regular city council meeting. Garcia, who was elected to the Place 2 position in May, was initially appointed by the council as mayor pro tem. Garcia, who started as a patrolman, is a peace officer for Marble Falls Police Department, where he serves as a criminal investigator. On Oct. 6, former Mayor Will Skinner notified Granite Shoals City Council members of his intent to step down, citing his impending move as the reason. His resignation hastened the swearing in of Garcia as mayor.

The mayor pro tem seat becomes vacant, so the council has 30 days to appoint a replacement as directed by the city charter.

Both Garcia and the new appointment in Place 2 will need to run for re-election in May.
