Two police officers and one civilian have been injured having been struck by a vehicle in Marble Hill, police said.
An NYPD spokeswoman told Norwood News on the evening of Thursday, Oct. 13, that police were alerted to an incident on the same evening at 7.10 p.m. at 40 West 225th Street. Asked for further background, the spokeswoman said, “I do not know the circumstances leading up to the incident, but I believe that they are all in stable condition at this time.”
Asked if the officers involved were from the 52nd Precinct, the spokesperson said, “I don’t know where the officers are from but that [location] is [in] the confines of the 52.”
On Friday, Oct. 14, police confirmed officers were alerted to a larceny in progress at a Target located at 40 West 225th Street. “Upon arrival, officers engaged a 45-year-old male in a foot pursuit outside of the location,” they said. “At this time, a 2012 Honda Civic, operated by a 53-year-old male, was traveling westbound on West 225 Street, in the left lane of travel, as two uniformed male police officers (23 and 33 years old) attempted to apprehend the suspect, who was now fleeing northbound across West 225 Street.”
They continued, “While the officers were attempting to gain control of the male individual, all three were struck by the Honda Civic as it traveled westbound on West 225 Street. Upon contact, the vehicle remained at the scene. The officers were transported, via EMS, to St. Barnabas Hospital in stable condition, each with leg injuries. The 45-year-old male individual was transported, via EMS, to NYC Health & Hospitals/Jacobi, in critical condition with body trauma and internal injuries.”
Police said he was subsequently taken into custody and arrested. They said the 53-year-old male driver of the Honda Civic was issued a summons for failure to use due care, resulting in the collision with the pedestrians and the investigation remains ongoing.
Manny Tate, 45, of Sheridan Avenue, located north west of Claremont Park, was arrested on Thursday, Oct. 13, at 9 p.m. within the confines of the 52nd Precinct
He was charged with robbery, two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer two counts of assault, two counts of reckless endangerment, petit larceny, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration, and disorderly conduct.
Users of the Citizens’ App posted videos of the aftermath of the scene, where at least one emergency services vehicle and several police officers were seen.
When contacted for details of the incident, an EMS spokesperson confirmed the incident location as 40 West 225th Street and said they were alerted to the incident at 7.11 p.m. They said, “pedestrian struck,” and confirmed that all three victims had been brought to area hospitals.
Also according to users of the Citizens’ App, two police officers allegedly chased a suspect onto a street and a car struck them. Norwood News is unable to verify this account of the incident at this time.
Norwood News recently reported on a road accident in which ten people, including two police officers, were injured after a police vehicle collided with another vehicle in the Foxhurst section of the Bronx, on Tuesday, Oct. 6.
A person arrested and charged with a crime is deemed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.
