Santa Monica’s iconic turquoise hotel, The Georgian, will relaunch in January. The Ocean Avenue property, which first opened in 1933, was acquired by downtown-based BLVD Hospitality and Beverly Hills-based ESI Ventures in 2020. The two have since been renovating the hotel, known for housing stars including Charlie Chaplin, Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe.

The property has 84 guest rooms and 28 suites, all of which are being restored to pay homage to their original look. Upgrades to the property also include two private meeting and dining spaces.

“I had passed by The Georgian many times before stepping foot inside the architecturally stunning property for the first time 13 years ago. I could see The Georgian had such a striking presence and charm, she just needed to be brought back to her full potential,” Jonathan Blanchard, founder and chief executive of BLVD, said in a statement. “We are so thankful to have such a wonderful group of passionate and inspired visionaries and partners working to give The Georgian what she has deserved for decades.”

Playa Vista-based Fettle, a boutique interior architecture and design firm, is behind the restoration.

The revitalized spaces will include Art Deco furniture, Italian marble and a Havana Deco-inspired floor pattern at the property’s Sunset Bar.

BLVD has worked on other historic properties. The firm, which was founded by Blanchard and Nicolo Rusconi, has developed more than $500 million worth of real estate and more than 1,400 keys.

One of its best-known properties is the Ace Hotel in downtown. BLVD converted the former United Artists building and theater into the 183-room Ace Hotel in 2014. The property is at 929 S. Broadway.
