Bins, Decorative Bark And Hub Caps: Ireland's Worst Gifts

We've all been there. It's the day before a birthday, an anniversary, Christmas or a wedding and you're flying around the shops in a flap looking for the perfect gift.

Panic can often lead to interesting decisions, and even more interesting gifts.

Other people just love a bit of practicality. Isabel in Kildare got in touch to tell us about her husband 'Practical Paul' who recently added a bin to his long line of bizarre presents that included both decorative bark, and decorative gravel.

Turns out, she's not alone. The people of Ireland have seen some serious duds!

I got a compost bin for my birthday which the guy got for £5 from his local County Council in Northern Ireland! 

My brother used to buy all his Christmas presents on building sites where he worked. One year I got a His and Hers watch, with the ‘His Watch’ missing from the box ? 

I got 8 ton of hardcore from my wife for a present. Sorted my garden out for my new patio, loved it. Practical, needed, perfect gift. Dave Dublin 

My husband Paul bought me a 5 l drum of screen wash for Christmas one year. 

A bin is a fab present compared to this - my Dad once gave my Mum 4 Hub Caps for Christmas!! 

My sisters (now ex- surprisingly) boyfriend got her a 6 inch tall marble elephant for Christmas one year ??? We still wind her up about it 20 years later
