Located in the heart of Big Cotton Wood Canyon in Utah, this 234-sq.-ft. project screams snowy mountain retreat. It was the clients’ wish to keep the space bright and cohesive with its surrounding elements, thus creating a seamless transition from the outdoor view into the bathroom. To achieve this look, Heidi Stewart and Kaycee Metekingi used minimal, modern touches that reflect the rich natural elements just outside the window. 

The team selected flat panel custom walnut cabinetry by Carriage House Mills for the vanity. Finding a coordinating tile selection for the shower walls was tricky, but Wood Tile from Emser Tile turned out to be the right pairing, bringing out similar elements and complementing the beautiful color variation of the thick wood grain cabinets. The wood-tone tiles are set on one shower wall and carry through the angled ceiling for a more natural setting. To offset the rich wood tones, they chose a white quartz countertop from Mele and white marble flooring from Emser Tile for both the shower and the room.

The focal point of the room is a large free-standing soaker tub from Ferguson Enterprises. Positioned in front of a floor-to-ceiling window, the tub overlooks the serene wooded landscape. A Polished Nickel floor-mounted tub spout, shower set and deck-mounted faucet are all from Ferguson, as is the undermount sink. A TOTO two-piece toilet is also included in the design. A large, sculptural pendant fixture sits above the tub, while a set of pendant lights with large glass globes from Avenue Lighting hang above the vanity, reflecting light off of the large mirror and adding a finishing touch to this “ski in, ski out” hideaway.

Debbie Franks was tasked with addressing two major concerns when she renovated this 25-year old bathroom: aesthetics and comfort. Working with architect Michael Franks, she transformed an outdated and chilly bathroom into a modern spa-like oasis. 

To start, a radiant heated floor, new HVAC system, and new steel floor-to-ceiling energy-efficient Torrance window with Hooper ventilators were added. With the room’s temperature issues now solved, they could address the owners’ wishes for clean lines and plenty of storage in a contemporary space.

To give the space a soothing spa feel, Franks chose Kursall white marble tile for the walls with Icon Calacatta marble chevron accents and Shimmering Pearl glass mosaic ceiling tiles in the bathing area, which features H20Kinetic and Pivotal faucets and shower fittings from Delta Faucet. The freestanding Oceano Milano tub frames the existing pool patio and distant Santa Catalina Mountains, while the Talia Large Chandelier from Restoration Hardware adds whimsical bubble bath charm. 

The undercabinet lighting adds warmth and interest to floating custom vanities from Quail Mountain Millworks, which are topped with Della Terra Quartz from Arizona Tile and Duravit Durasquare DS Washbowls.

Inspired by the sleek design of high-end hotels, the owners of this condo bath wanted to balance their urban setting with a modern industrial theme, as well as enlarge the shower and replace a corner tub with a freestanding version. Relocating existing plumbing was not possible, so designer Natalie Erickson, ASID and architect Nicholas Blavat, AIA, NCARB, incorporated a step up into the bathroom design. As a result, the shower drain and toilet were kept in the same location, while the tub and sinks were relocated.

The white Victoria + Albert tub is offset by black marble-look porcelain tile, making for a stunning focal point. A cool palette of black and white throughout is softened by matte rift-cut white oak cabinetry for both the double vanity and makeup area. 

The shower, which was enlarged with space borrowed from a closet, showcases white porcelain tile that is contrasted with matte black shower fittings. Black accessories from Kallista and black-edged Robern Profiles medicine cabinets over each sink helped achieve the luxury hotel feel the clients were seeking.
